A Fediverse relay is a technical concept based on the Fediverse network. The Fediverse is a decentralised social network that allows users to connect and interact across different platforms. It consists of a large number of decentralised servers that allow users to share content such as texts, photos or videos with other users.
A Fediverse relay acts as an intermediary between different instances within the Fediverse. It collects and transmits posts and updates from one instance to another, much like a relay in networking technology forwards data packets. It allows users to view, share and comment on content published on one instance from other instances, regardless of which instance they are logged into.
But why is the Fediverse relay somehow cyberpunk? Cyberpunk typically refers to a dystopian vision of the future where technology becomes increasingly pervasive and society is controlled by mega-corporations or corrupt governments. In some ways, the Fediverse relay embodies this cyberpunk essence, as it allows users to disconnect from large social networks run by large tech companies and instead opt for a decentralised alternative. It empowers users to regain control of their own data, allowing them to publish and share their content independent of censorship or manipulation attempts by those in power.
The Fediverse relay is also in keeping with the aesthetics of the cyberpunk genre, as it represents a technology developed and operated by a dedicated community pursuing alternative visions of social networking and communication. It contrasts with the one-size-fits-all platforms of large corporations, where users have less influence over the network architecture.
It is also worth noting that the Fediverse relay has gained participation from the Cortex Implant and Night City Bar instances, allowing them to make new cyberpunk and edgerunner friends throughout the Fediverse.
To use our Cyberpunk Fediverse Relay, you don't have to do much. If you are an admin of your own Fediverse instance, please follow these steps:

Add "https://relay.obeythesystem.com/inbox" under Relays.
For Akkoma / Pleroma:
Add "https://relay.obeythesystem.com/actor" under Relays.
After adding our Relay to your instance, there is just one more small step to enable federation. Send a brief direct message to the Fediverse account @lucy@corteximplant.com stating that you have added our relay. We will then verify the connection and provide you with feedback.
